Hello for the first time in a long while. JRobbins.net has been idling here in cyberspace for too long ... a total overhaul is in the works. There is much news in the meantime.
Most important, my wife Janet and I have been overwhelmed by the kindness and support of the creative and caring people around us in response to our son Callum's diagnosis of SMA. We have started a blog specifically to keep and share a record of what's happening with Callum at
http://callumrobbins.blogspot.com/.
JRobbins.net will return to its previous dorky focus on music and recording stuff. I've been working more than I realized, though it's been far from my former workaholic style. Among the highlights of the past several months: finishing the truly stellar Brinca Means Jump EP (only to find out the band broke up within a month after its completion); full-length records with the great Baltimore band Avec (OK not the whole thing, they tracked vocs and overdubs at home) and Clutch instrumental side project the Bakerton Group; more Lo Moda basic tracks, and a new demo by the reformed and refreshed Liars Academy. The near future is really exciting too - Brazillian band Debate is here for a few days to record an EP, and in April Modern Life is War will be here for almost a month to record their new full-length for EVR. Rahim, Killing the Dream, and Sylvie are on the horizon.
AND the MCI 1/2" machine and JH-416 console were just completely recapped by the lovely and talented Nikhil Ranade. Seriously, it's like I got a new tape machine. The JH-110 has never sounded better. I am itching to mix something on the 416. Is there something wrong with me that I am this thrilled by new capacitors?
