The Spring weather keeps coming. I am waiting for the other shoe to drop and Maryland Summer to come and clobber us. So far, it's just been amazing and gorgeous ... Not that I have been out in the weather all that much - busy with Two If By Sea. Their record is tracked and we are taking a little time off before mixing. We had an amazing session last Sunday recording strings. Neil from the Mishaps cooked up some really tasty arrangements, and Alexia from Soft Complex and Rielly from Low Moda played cello and viola on 4 songs. They sounded great together even though they had never met before the recording date. Really really stoked about how it all worked out. I am always a little skeptical, even worried, about sessions like this (outside musicians, string parts on a rock record, people who have never played together before, an arranger I only know as a friend of the band, etc etc), and all my worries just went away from the first note they played, and I got to just enjoy recording some really skilled players playing really good parts. What more could I ever ask for: a studio full of nice people doing good work together ... and the string arrangements really brought the songs to another level production-wise too. Very excited to mix this stuff.
