Greetings from Babyland. Here time has lost all meaning, as we wake at 4AM and nap in the afternoon (when we're lucky). This is like Year Zero - there's no taking anything for granted and it's pretty amazing. Almost every day the boy does some small new amazing thing, and when he doesn't he's still awesome, and I am finding sleep-deprived delirium to be a more agreeable condition than I had imagined. Also right now I am well beyond stoked, having just spent a lovely morning and afternoon recording a couple of demos with one of my absolute favorite bands, the Smoking Popes. A nicer bunch of fellows - and a tighter band - you'll never meet in rock. Getting a chance to record them, even a quick and dirty half-day in this most informal context, is pretty much like Christmas in March. And this weekend The Life and Times will arrive to finish the Japanese EP they began last Fall, so I guess that's 2 Christmases this March already. AND earlier this week I got to do some recording with Low Moda, a great atmospheric Baltimore band, which was a lot of fun and a great hang too.
And I just bought a brand-new RE20, which makes me feel like there's a brighter future for kick drums at the Magpie Cage.
